Bowl Games
« on: December 23, 2021, 01:14:30 AM »
In the first one I really cared about Army gave up an early TD to Missouri, then fell behind 10-0, before fighting its way back to take the lead 21-16 with about 6 minutes left in the game.

Army then recovered a Mizzou fumble near midfield with 3:45 left, but then went 3 and out, with a mediocre punt setting the Tigers up at their own 20 or so with 3:15 left.  With no TOs remaining, Mizzou scored a go-ahead TD with 1:11, but failed on the 2-point conversion, leaving the score 22-21.

Army then came back to FG range, rather mismanaged the clock--they could have run at least one more play than they did--but still kicked the GWFG on the game's last play.

Army 24, Missouri 22.

I always pull for the service academies, was glad to see Army pull out the W at the end.

I think I've bought lunch the last 5 or 6 seasons - usually at Bonedaddy's

That's a reasonable wager.

Who did you have in the Tulsa-ODU game?

The UCF-Florida game this evening might be worth watching.

we both picked Tulsa, so no damage

I have Miami of Ohio and Florida - I'd be happy with a split

Tulsa-ODU showed the bad and the good of bowl season.

The game was played in a stadium smaller than some large HS stadiums, before a very small crowd.  So the game environment was very uninspiring.

But it was a good football game.

Texas A&M cancelled their bowl game and it looks like there may be others cancelled as well

Tha ags didn't cancel their bowl game, they declined to participate.  The bowl game will go on, with Rutgers as the replacement opponent, to face Wake Forest.

I wonder if this is a first

I dont remember a replacement team playing a bowl game once the original 2 teams were announced

I don't recall it ever happening before, but bowl games have been around since long before I was born, so I'm no expert.

Your Miami (O) pick is looking good.

And that's despite it being practically a home game for UNT.

I don't know of it ever happening either.
I know of the Rose Bowl being moved to North Carolina during WWII.  I think it was the 1942 game, and I think that it was played in Duke's stadium.  Wallace Wade Stadium, maybe?
