Usually, the top three do very well, then somewhere in the next 7 are 3 teams that do rather poorly, meaning 9-4ish, or worse.  The other four have solid years about as expected.  Picking those teams that may excel is nigh on impossible except by luck.  I picked UCLA this year.  They might end up 6-6 or 10-2.

I think Notre Dame is in that same category.

But I don't see UCLA in Steele's top 10.  I'm not sure they'll be in anybody's top 10.

UCLA probably won't be ranked, oreseason, that's my point.  I think they have a shot at 10-2, which would mean somewhere in the 8-14 range.

I'm not saying they'll be a great team, just a team with a shot at a solid record.  Some unranked teams will end up in the top 15 of course.

Per SI, the top-4 in the B12 in 2022 are expected to be:

  • Oklahoma
  • Baylor
  • Oklahoma State
  • Texas

So, games among those four:
Oklahoma:
  • vs Texas (neutral site) on 10/8
  • vs Baylor on 11/5
  • vs OkSU on 11/19
Baylor:
  • vs OkSU on 10/1
  • at OU on 11/5
  • at Texas on 11/25
Oklahoma State:
  • at Baylor on 10/1
  • vs Texas on 10/22
  • at Oklahoma on 11/19
Texas:
  • vs OU (neutral site) on 10/8
  • at OkSU on 10/22
  • vs Baylor on 11/25

This is conditional on SI's rankings being at least close to right, but Oklahoma's schedule looks highly favorable.  They don't play any of the other projected top teams on the road.  They also get #5 KSU at home so their toughest league road games should be against #6 and #7 (WVU and ISU respectively).

Texas has a balanced schedule with Baylor at home, OkSU on the road, and OU at a neutral site.  The other two top-4 teams each have two road games and one home game against the top of the B12.  This favorable schedule leads me to believe that even if Oklahoma isn't all that good, they could still make it to the B12CG.
