I'm not too sure any QB would have excelled for 2001 UM.
The running game stunk, with a young Chris Perry backing up a FB-turned-RB BJ Askew. And only one receiving threat in Marquise Walker. They had no one else catching balls that year.
The defense was great vs the run, but gave up 20+ points in half their games, so it wasn't great.
.
I can buy a better QB would get them in a position that MSU couldn't score on the last play and beat them and beat Warshington in a game of offensive and special teams ineptitude. As for the other game, no QB is likely to lead you back from a 21-0 deficit (vs OSU).
.
Even if UM went 10-1, we saw what happened when they played a big-boy team in the Citrus Bowl. A half-dozen teams would have thumped the Wolverines in whatever better bowl they'd have gotten.
