I figured if I spent $80 K on the car, I could pony up for BG delivery.  It looks pretty cool, and you get a free visit to the museum thrown in ...:)

It's kind of amazing to me now ho egress becomes a factor as one ages.  These low to the ground cars become less appealing.

No 1 too
Negatory.  The original Ponycar is the original.  The OG Camaro was certainly a beautiful car, though.

That Time Pontiac Turbocharged the Trans Am (motortrend.com)

The Pontiac Trans Am Turbo's performance numbers were, by standards of the day, reasonably strong. Its 0-60-mph time of 9.05 seconds was best of the bunch; same for its 17.02-second quarter mile, which just barely edged out the Porsche (17.10) and the Saab (17.23). The engine was supposed to feel like an old-school big V-8 rather than a high-strung turbo engine, and according toMotorTrend, it did: "There is no sensation of boost," they wrote, "only the rush and sound of a V-8 leaping out at 5,000 rpm." In an impromptu race against the Porsche 924—which cost more than three times as much—the two cars ran neck-and-neck.

MotorTrend's scribes noted the Trans Am's age: "You'll find that 4.9-liter engine to be the only thing different under its decade-old skin. The rest of the car is like stepping into yesteryear." But after they'd driven it, they apparently decided yesteryear was a fine place to be. "For a first-year car, the Turbo Trans Am is surprisingly complete," they wrote. "The no-nonsense interior is like coming back home, and the brutal WS6 suspension makes you never want to leave again."

I had a Formula. The Trans Am had too much bling for my taste.

After watching Smokey and the Bandit about a bazillion times, the Trans Am was the thing for me.

But still, I always liked the Firebird Formula trim package that had the asymmetrical bump-out in the hood.

And I also liked the low racing stripe with giant "Formula" decal on this one:

Those are sharp.

I remember thinking I had a fast car at the time. Compare that to now and it's hard to think about how poorly those big V8's performed.

Yeah even basic cars like a Honda Civic these days, rival those old tanks in performance.

But they're not as pretty!

The article talks about the Pontiac going up against a Porsche.

Of course it was the 924. Porsche should have never released that model. It really cheapened the brand. Hard to believe they let it be sold for 10+ years.

0-60 in 9 seconds is at the slow end of slow these days.  Any CUV would stomp that, or edge it.

Maybe there is an exception somewhere.  The base Tucson is 8.5 if I recall correctly.

I liked the Formula a lot, the screaming eagle thingee was not my schtick.

Hell, my giant Ford Flex can do it. Finding it hard to find numbers I can trust but I think it's between 8 and 8.5 s.

My F150 is something like 5.8 or 5.9 seconds.  More than fast enough for me, but the torque is what's most important for me whilst towing.

My limit in a new car would be 8 seconds, and that's a hard limit.  Six starts to feel pretty sporty.  Four is defintely getting there and traction limited usually.

To get under 3 pretty much requires AWD or a rear engine.

For me, I want responsiveness, which usually means going 40-65 pretty effortlessly.
