Allar had a bad night. ND gets some of the credit for that. The enemy gets a vote.
More points than I expected, but basically the game I thought we'd see. Freeman outcoached Franklin.

Winner of Texas/OSU will justifiably be favored, but defense wins championships, and that's what ND relies on. I wouldn't for a moment suggest ND should be favored in the championship game, but I don't expect a repeat of 2013.

Rumors in Austin are, it's all Oregon.  They have a guy but maybe they don't like that guy, who knows?  And it's going to take a pretty good chunk of change to make him do college one more year instead of the NFL, even if his NFL draft status isn't all that great.

This is the part of NIL/portal/free agency/college pay-for-play that really is just so different and unnerving, to me.  In a world with no NIL and no unlimited free agency, Ewers would most likely be sticking around for another year at Texas if a check on his NFL draft status came back as less than desirable.  Even with Arch Manning waiting in the wings, he'd probably still be the most likely starter, and Arch would either have to sit another year, or transfer, but there wouldn't be a pile of money waiting for him at a new school, so the only reason to transfer would be for playing time.

As it is, you have a young promising QB potentially pushing out a proven starter (even if he's not as great as we'd hoped), because I guess we don't want to lose the young guy.  There are worse problems to have, of course, it's just really weird.  Ideally Ewers would have just aced this season, had mega-high draft potential, and moved on, as part of the natural course of things.  This is so weird, and I don't like it.  But it is what it is.
That is interesting to me. I feel like in some ways the thing I like best about the new era is avoiding potential unhappy quarterback situations like that.

Like Quinn returning will probably not be enjoyable for him, and probably not the Texas fan base. In some ways, he’s run his course.

I am a bit skeptical about a landing spot like Oregon, or maybe even Miami. to get where those programs want to go, they will probably need really high-end quarterback play. And grabbing a secondhand Quinn Ewers or Carson Beck is probably not getting you there. as much as I don’t particularly enjoy what Miami is, they did have the right idea landing Cam Ward. (I am also kind of fascinated by the recent evolution of the George quarterback room behind Beck, but that’s another matter)

Aaron Murray (for whatever his opinion is worth) was suggesting last night that Beck could end up at Ohio State.  That could be quite something.  Despite his less spectacular showing this year, I think it had more to do with losing some amazing weapons and other, more general, UGA problems.  Give him that Buckeye WR kid and an OL, he'd probably do major damage.

I made Scott Tolzien jokes about a few QBs the past few years, but I can’t trust the five-star to do what I’d trust Tolzien to do, I suppose that says something about how things would end for PSU.

(I do think there should've been more “just get a ball to a playmaker in space” emphasis, but that was what it was)
I didn't hate continuing to run draws, and then just seeing what happens

This morning I got "O-H!"ed by a park ranger at Zion NP, as I was embarking on a nice tranquil pregame hike up the cold and lonely narrows.

Glorious time to be a Buckeye.

I love Zion. The Buckeyes, not so much.

Zion is deserted in the winter, which is strange because that's by far the best time to hike around here.

On the radio I heard a jabber jock call it Arlington, Dallas in what was clearly the hottest of takes.
