A couple of our bakeries make a boudin kolache.  The improper nomenclature aside (it should be called a boudin klobasnek), they are flipping delicious.

Krispy Kreme opened their first store in the Twin Cities in April of my senior year of HS. For the first month or so, the lines to get donuts were off-the-wall crazy, including at 12:30 AM on a Saturday night in which it had been snowing hard all day (yes, it snows in April).

The buzz wore off quickly. They were totally out of the market in less than 3 years.

Their donuts were okay. Kwik Trip makes better glazed donuts.

I've always thought of KK as a California thing, but just googled it and apparently it started in North Carolina and first franchised across the southeast.

If I'm going to eat a donut, I'm going to a local. Much better than any chain.

The best donuts I've had come from a place in my old town. Owner is a great friend too.

Those kerlaches are the real deal.  Filled with smoked brisket or smoked sausage.  They're fantastic.

Same here. I love salty, spicy, sour, bitter, and umami, but I'm not a sweets guy. If I'm having breakfast, I prefer a breakfast sandwich to a donut. 

And beer is a great source of carbs. Especially hoppy, bitter IPA ;-)
