My goal is to over-react every week to recent results but don't totally forget everything either.  Unfortunately everybody played cupcakes except USC,  PSU and Minn and there is not much to over-react to

1.  Ohio St. -  I am following my old rule that until OSU loses,  they default to #1

2.  USC - impressive come from behind win at LSU

3.  Penn St -  Solid win over P4 WV

4.  Michigan -  looked OK for first game

5.  Oregon - did not look that great

6.  Iowa -  will get a better test next week against Iowa St.

7.  Illinois - still my dark horse team

8.  MD -  scored 50 on bad UConn team

9.  Rutgers -  another potential dark horse

10.  Nebraska - looked better than expected.

11.  Washington -  not much to go on yet

12.  Wisconsin -  struggled against MAC team

13.  Purdue -  may not be as bad as I first thought

14.  Minnesota -  Almost pulled it out against UNC.

15.  Indiana - good first game

16.  NW -  has a history of starting slow each season

17.  UCLA -  pulled out a close one

18.  Mich St -  last place for now, but they probably will get better later in the season

1. PSU – Has the QB and the manpower to win the Big Ten.
2. OSU – We learned nothing.
3. USC – A last second win over a blue blood
4. Iowa – It was an FCS blowout, but defense was strong, and offense came back
5. Nebraska – Cornhuskers are the real deal in 2024
6. Michigan – Fresno State is a better opponent than most might think.
7. Oregon –2nd most transfer portal players in nation; it's just a group of players; not a team.
8. Illinois – Shutout a good FCS team
9.  Wisconsin – Struggling a bit at home against Western Michigan is not a good look.
10. Washington
11. Rutgers
12. Indiana
13. Maryland
14. Northwestern
15. Purdue
16. Michigan State
17. Minnesota
18. UCLA – Deserves the basement after Week #1

Geez, adding four more teams makes this exercise so much more challenging. When we add more I'll probably just decline to participate.

1. Penn State
2. OSU
3. USC
4. Michigan
5. Iowa
6. Nebraska
7. Washington
8. Oregon
9. Rutgers
10. Wisconsin
11. Illinois
12. Indiana
13. Michigan State
14. Northwestern
15. Purdue
16. Maryland
17. UCLA
18. Minnesota

  • Ohio State: Offense started off a janky, but got better as the game went on. But they probably have the league's best defense, so they can afford a little jank.
  • Oregon: The score was close, but the box score wasn't. Didn't see this game so not sure what to make of it.
  • Penn State: The offense looked dynamic, but they did against WVU last year too
  • Michigan: Offense hasn't arrived, but the defense can carry them.
  • USC: Still uncertain of what to make of them (and LSU), but a good solid win and the defense wasn't putrid. An improvement!
  • Iowa: Still played defense and now scored a few points. Good ol' Iowa
  • Nebraska: Maybe? They looked the part and if they can play sound defense will make a statement Saturday
  • Washington: Tough to say much about them
  • Wisconsin: Lackluster, but winning. The Tress/Fickell specialty?
  • Purdue: Part of group I'm just throwing in a hopper
  • Illinois: Same hopper
  • Maryland: Yep
  • MSU: Same
  • Indiana: Uh huh
  • Rutgers: Yeah them too
  • Minnesota: Included
  • Northwestern: Feels like they will look terrible and still win games
  • UCLA: Bad

This is a pretty good ranking. I'm not sure I would change anything here.

Oregon was getting pushed around by Idaho in the trenches. That's not a great sign, heading into the Big Ten.

Last week in parentheses...

  • PENN STATE (3) - not many teams nationally can claim a true road P4 win already
  • OHIO STATE (2) - slow start, figured it out
  • USC (5) - do they actually have a defense?
  • MICHIGAN (4) - do they have ANY offense?
  • OREGON (1) - OL looks rough, could undermine everything
  • WASHINGTON (6) - OL looked surprisingly good
  • IOWA (8) - so it really was as easy as de-Ferentzing the sideline?
  • NEBRASKA (10) - offense looks leaps and bounds better
  • WISCONSIN (7) - Tyler Van Dyke doesn't look to be any different that who he was at Miami last year
  • RUTGERS (11) - just Howard, but the offense looks legit
  • MARYLAND (13) - defense was expected to be pretty good, offense looks ahead of schedule
  • UCLA (9) - everyone from here down looked as blah as expected, so I'm just going to keep them in their prior order
  • MINNESOTA (12) -
  • ILLINOIS (14) -
  • PURDUE (15) -
  • NORTHWESTERN (16) -
  • MICHIGAN STATE (17) -
  • INDIANA (18) -
