Within this thread USC is ranked #2 by everyone except the one Buckeye-hating M fan who stuck them ahead of the Buckeyes probably out of spite.  Otherwise they are right behind the Buckeyes and not far ahead of the Ducks.  The interesting thing is that the Trojans play neither Ohio State nor Oregon in the regular season this year.
Why make an assumption of someone’s ranking and then vocally call it out in such a way instead of just asking?

USC had a pretty solid win on a national stage. OSU played 2 pretty awful teams. I think it’s reasonable some people rank based on the results not necessarily The projected outcome. If USC wins this week and so does osu and more people rank usc #1, is it not a reasonable ranking?

why always take a dig at someone?

Most seasons I would have OSU lower from unanswered questions reasons. However, the defense looks to be really strong, their best since 2019 and perhaps better. The questions were on offense, and right now they appear improved at QB, RB, TE, and OL compared to last year, and not much dropoff at receiver despite losing Marv. Given none of the B1G teams have been world beaters (except Indiana) I will probably roll with the Bucks until they look shaky.

I agree with all of this. I think top to bottom so far they look like a very talented team and the B1G doesn’t look like a deep conference this year. I expect OsU to be undefeated going into the playoffs as long as the injury bug stays away as I think they are the most loaded team in the conference.

that being said, we have always had a history of people in the power rankings that early in the year, they rank in tiers and the order sometimes depends on early SOS. I personally don’t see it that way, but it adds interesting debate.

I clearly posted it for a reason so this response isn’t intimidating to me at all.

I think they are too, though the Iowa, @Oregon, Nebraska, @ Penn State is looking to be a very tough stretch. They do have a bye week between Oregon and Nebraska though

Ok, first I already said that his explanation was fair.

I compiled the PR for years so I'm familiar with everyone's biases.  There tends to be a LOT of sandbagging on here, a LOT of posters underrate consistently their own team.  Then there are a few that consistently overrate their own team.  MCW was the most egregious example of this.  Then there are some who consistently underrate hated rivals.  I've seen enough to stand by my comment.

Most of your explanation is spot on. Theres plenty of people that consistently overrate or underrate teams. HB probably underrated OSU for 5-6 years let alone a week or two. That being said, I don’t think we should ever accept one poster claiming he knows why another poster did something without the opportunity to hear from the actual poster. I’m confident you would prefer to clarify your stances instead of me making assumptive posts of the reason I think you took a stance. That’s been my entire point. Your logic and data side of the rankings is sound outside of that.

These rankings should be fun.   I hope we aren’t overthinking it.

I was on my annual golf trip so didn’t see UM v Texas.  I have watched Oregon once, and they looked sharp.  I have seen OSU twice, but they have had 2 patsies so can’t learn much.

I saw USC once, Iowa once and Nebraska once.  If I were to rank them now, it would be just a fun, wild guess.
Plus, some teams do improve- often dramatically- as the season moves along.  Michigan v USC should be a good one, and the Huskers v Illinois as well.  We might learn more.

This is why I don't participate. I don't want to think about these things all that much, don't watch enough games closely, so everything would be a wild-assed guess.

Plus what's the fun of ranking my team? We suck. Do you realize how painful it would be for me to put Purdue below IU? :'(

The big 20-team fantasy football league I'm in has everyone rank each team's draft results after draft day. Who's got time for that? So I didn't put any thought into it. The site told us how long each team took to make all of their picks, so I ranked them in order of aggregate amount of time taken during the draft--shorter is better.
