Here’s a fun one, 1980 Nebraska. Second in scoring O and D against a No. 12 schedule.

Lost to a top-5 Noles team 18-14 and No. 3 Oklahoma 21-17.

Here’s a wild stat: They 91.3 plays per game, 73.9 runs. Four dudes had between 108 and 156 carries in 12 games, and another had 72.
I missed this one
Andra Franklin at FB
Jarvis Redwine at I-back
Dave Rimmington

I only recently created this team for WN.  An almost 29 point differential is huge for a 2-loss team.  I guess it was the days of the big 2 and little 6 back then.
Elite defense and good passing option QB.  As you say, balanced ball distribution.  Both IBs averaged 7+ ypc and a productive FB.  The only nitpick would be the QB wasn't a plus runner.

How many 0-2 teams were there in the early days? Those were the worst 2-loss teams.
I looked it up, and there were a few 0-1 teams in the early 1870s. There's never been an 0-2 team.

Mizzou climbed to a #9 ranking before a loss to Penn St.
Penn St lost to Nebraska in State College
Non-con schedules were great back then

The next season Osborne started a senior non-runner at QB before turning to soph Turner Gill
Gill was the recruit from Ft. Worth that Switzer wanted. Plus runner
82 and 83 offenses set some NCAA records

Having a bunch of helmet-program independents made sure of that.

Jim Druckenmiller - Virginia Tech football QB 1995-96 - 2 losses
He is considered one of the best QBs to ever play at Virginia Tech. In 1995, he led the Hokies to a 10-win season and a Sugar Bowl victory against the Texas Longhorns. The following year, they also accomplished another 10-win season and would square off against Nebraska in the Orange Bowl. They, however, lost that game 41-21.
It is often stated that Jim put Virginia Tech football on the map, leading to many years of success in the late 90s into the 2000s. Although the program has not seen much success as of lately, I am looking forward to the day that Virginia Tech football returns to national prominence.
