I think he fumbled once.  It was a show of feces all around.

9 turnovers from a risk-adverse offense just goes to show that anything can happen (a la that OU loss to KU in '75).

2002 Texas was pretty good, though not on the same level as a couple already mentioned.

11-2 with a loss to 12-2 B12 champions and Rose Bowl champion OU, and a pesky Texas Tech team in Lubbock.

But also a lovely shellacking of Saban's LSU Tigers in the Cotton Bowl.

The 97 and 98 UCLA teams were entertaining.  Garbage defense, but went 10-2 in consecutive seasons.
In 97, they lost their first 2 games by 1 score each, then utterly WTF slaughtered Texas 66-3.  That's the ultimate from-out-of-nowhere game outcome in my mind, to this day.  Won their last 10 games.

In 98, they won their FIRST 10 games (so 20 in a row, overall) before losing that rescheduled shootout at the Orange Bowl vs Miami, then getting run over by Ron Dayne in the RB.

Wow.  Now THAT'S ignorance.
I think the worst thing you could actually say about that team was maybe it was the worst passing attack of a RB team the past 10-15 years.  Maybe.
But
Dayne
lockdown CB Fletcher
elite kicker and punter
elite punt returner
elite run defense

What a bizarre thing to say from James.  Why even go there? lol

I've always thought it a bit ironic that the 1980 UGA team won an NC and barely escaped with several miracle wins.  The 1981 team was better, in my view, and was 11-2.  The 1982 team was good but could not throw the ball and relied on #34 too much and it cost them.

You need some breaks.  Usually.  Nebraska excepted.

I think all bigtime fans know of seasons where a better team had a worse record and vice-versa.

In all of my researching of teams across eras, you'd be surprised how many teams with great records had razor-thin margins.  Most often it was back in the 70s and early 80s of 'we'll try to out-tough you and you try to out-tough us' type of football strategy was the thing to do.
If you put a Spurrier or Tiller back then, or if LaVell Edwards was at a P5 program, they would have wiped the floor with most everybody.  That's how Miami became Miami - going against the grain, passing to its RBs, passing more overall, along with the S to LB and LB to DE thing.

Back in 1980, most everyone was basically 2023 Iowa, but with a better running game.

T&F has been terrific.  Some amazingly close finishes for medals at all distances.

1999 Wisconsin was a pretty good 10-2 team.

That Rose Bowl loss to f'ing TCU in 2010 still stings. Should have been 12-1, dammit.

Coach Darrell Royal labeled TCU as the "cockroaches" because they fall into stuff and mess it up.  Just as appropriate in the 2020s as it was the 90s as it was in the 60s.
