Best 2-loss teams ever
« on: August 09, 2024, 10:00:34 PM »
What are some great 2-loss teams from history?  You could say 2007 LSU might have been one, as NC.  The famed 1990 Miami team and their Cotton Bowl hijinks is probably one.
Personally, I know 2001 Florida was one.  +27 point diff per game, 400 yds passing/gm.  Only lost when the starting RB was hurt.  2 losses by a combined 5 pts.
..
2008 OU was pretty great.
Others?

The 05 Buckeye team was pretty good, with very close losses to #1 Texas and #3 Penn State. Otherwise only had one 1 score win

2004 Cal was a damn wagon. Only loss in the regular season was to a great USC team. Generally dominated otherwise. Then pulled an SEC after getting passed over for the Rose Bowl.

2019 Bama was a great team.
Losses were by 5 to the great LSU NC team and then Auburn w/o Tua.

2012 Texas A&M not too shabby. Two losses, first game to Florida who went to the BCS that year by I think 2 points, LSU. Johnny Manziel beat Bama in Tuscaloosa and bitch slapped B-12 champion OU in the Cotton Bowl.

It was ou first year in the SEC under a new coach.

2012 Texas A&M (11-2) lead by Johnny Manziel with a win over #1 Alabama

1997 Tennessee (11-2) lead by Peyton Manning with losses only to #1 Florida and #2 Nebraska in the Orange Bowl

2008 Texas Tech (11-2), Mike Leach’s best season with a famous win over #1 Texas

1995 Colorado (10-2) lead by Koy Detmer with wins over top 10 Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Kansas State

2015 Michigan State (12-2), beating #3 Ohio State in Columbus, beating undefeated  Iowa to win the Big Ten, and losing to eventual National Champion Alabama in the CFP

some may say "infamous" win over Texas
95 Buffies only lost by 23 to the greatest team ever

The best UGA 2 loss team was in 1981.  They still had Belue at QB and he was decent, Herschel was a soph, and they had defense.  Lost a turnover fest at Clemson and then on the last play at the Sugar Bowl against Pitt.

They beat Tennessee 44-0 in a game not that close.

Even though Walker was able to push, shove, and get through Clemson's defense by rushing 28 times for 111 yards, it wasn't enough to overcome 9 turnovers by the Bulldogs in the loss to the Tigers

No, they just had a lot of TOs that day.  The offense was mostly toss right and toss left.  Five TOs were interceptions, some off tipped balls.

Clemson won the NC that year.
