As noted, money is and will continue to drive this train. If the TV ratings remain high, the re-working of college sports as an industry will continue; if the ratings consistently lag where they were, the re-working of college sports as an industry will move in a different direction. Regardless, it is very unlikely to go back to where it was in 2010, 1990, 1970, or any other prior period. We will have to see how these changes impact our tribalism and connection to the teams. It may be that TV money is enough that they just don't care what the alumni and other die-hard NCAA sports fans think. Make no mistake, love or hate the NCAA, that's what the "traditionalists" are arguing for: the NCAA version of college sports. Instead, it's very possible that these teams will attract the same regional followings that their "professional" sports counterparts do and as a result perform even better as a television product.
One thing is certain: change.
