This is where I'm at.

I don't like it but if it is going to be the system then I want my school to excel at it and if that screws over Purdue well, if we didn't do it somebody else would.
Yep. But as I've pointed out for years now... The CFP has sucked all the air out of the room, so the old goal for a school like Purdue, i.e. a winning season, a bowl game, and hopefully beating your rival, is now worthless. And with the transfer portal and NIL, the new goal--getting to, and not getting embarrassed in, the CFP--is unattainable b/c you can just expect any star you manage to recruit and develop to take off and find brighter lights and more $$$.

So... Hope y'all enjoy your sport going forward. The rest of us will slowly just lose interest and do something else with our lives...

Same.

There will be 15-20 relevant schools going forward, and mine will not be one of them.

I'm pretty sure you already know this, but I'm 100% in agreement with you here.

It seems not to be a factor for you, but I think the ability to be a spoiler is/was a factor for at least some fans of non-helmets. That has been reduced three ways:
  • Purdue less likely to have a guy like Max Klare because he can transfer for more $ whether at Ohio State or elsewhere
  • Ohio State is going to annually get guys like Max Klare whether from Purdue or elsewhere
  • Even if Purdue manages to upset Ohio State anyway, the Buckeyes now start every season knowing that they have two mulligans so a loss to Purdue only knocks them out if it is coupled with two other losses.

Whether you want to believe this or not, even if my team is going to be one of “them“ My level of passion for college football has dropped dramatically and will continue to drop unless they fix this

we've all known that the powers have been on a greedy path to ruin the sport we love

they are just one step closer today

until viewership declines and the $$$ declines, they've no reason to reverse course

I have not spent $0.01 on anything CFB since 2016 - the last time I went to a game.

No t-shirts, no donations, no tickets, no nothing.

Do the powers that be care that they lost a $10K+/year guy?

I'm guessing not.

It's over Johnny.

I'm the same way.

Even though it looks like this will be great for our team, it just isn't the same watching this year's tOSU mercenaries up against this year's other blue blood's mercenaries.  There is no development because who cares?  If a guy isn't "ready" just drop him and go get somebody who is.

As noted, money is and will continue to drive this train. If the TV ratings remain high, the re-working of college sports as an industry will continue; if the ratings consistently lag where they were, the re-working of college sports as an industry will move in a different direction. Regardless, it is very unlikely to go back to where it was in 2010, 1990, 1970, or any other prior period. We will have to see how these changes impact our tribalism and connection to the teams. It may be that TV money is enough that they just don't care what the alumni and other die-hard NCAA sports fans think. Make no mistake, love or hate the NCAA, that's what the "traditionalists" are arguing for: the NCAA version of college sports. Instead, it's very possible that these teams will attract the same regional followings that their "professional" sports counterparts do and as a result perform even better as a television product.

One thing is certain: change.

Ultimately, I think that concept will fail. It'll never compete with the NFL.

There will be pockets where it is dominant. But what we know already from college sports is that it's typically dominant in places without an NFL team <cough>SEC</cough>. And why is there no NFL team in those places? Because the media market isn't big enough to justify an NFL team. Which means those media markets don't move the needle for ratings even if CFB dominates.

I'd say that outside of the Southeast, most of college fandom is driven by either attending the school, having family who attended the school, etc... I don't see regionalism overtaking that when there are established professional leagues, playing at a MUCH higher level, already in region.

I have a slew of responses to this:
  • We are accustomed to a guy picking a good fit but maybe Ohio State simply offered him more money?
  • If I played a position that involved the ball being thrown to me, I'd be leery of Michigan until proven otherwise.
  • Wouldn't you RATHER be somewhere with great WR's so that opposing defenses would be less likely to be able to double-cover you with a safety?
  • Until the NCAA's actions become clear, I'd be concerned about that.  Granted, the NCAA will probably SEVERELY punish WMU for Harbaugh's transgressions but you never know, justice might actually be served.
#1 is a great point.....highest bidder probably wins out in this day and age.

Michigan has been producing and putting out better TE prospects than Ohio State as of late and Michigan is about to put Colston Loveland into the 1st round. Michigan also throws the ball to the TE a lot regardless of who is playing QB....and oh yeah not to mention they just signed the #1 QB and player in the 2025 class who is one of the very best QB prospects to come out in a decade. This year Michigan TE's had 77 catches with a shit sandwich combo at QB with Davis Warren & Alex Orji meanwhile Ohio State TE's had 33 catches.

I would go with the school that absolutely owns the other school right now on the field and features TE's more and has produced much better ones- but hey that's just me.

LULZ @ #4....k brohio.

Tampering is now the norm.

I was reading that multiple schools have offered Jeremiah Smith MILLIONS to change schools, even though he is not in the portal and shows no signs of going anyway else.  Truly crazy.

In some of these spaces, people are very interested in letting media people who they claim to think are idiots define what they find joy in and send them into a pity party.

Like the former First Lady told us, you can just say no.
