Reliable sources confirm that barring last second change of heart, Jim Knowles is headed to Penn State. He has notified James Franklin that he’ll accept their offer of well over $3 million to be highest paid coordinator in college football history. Knowles is from Philly.Where there's smoke.......

Jimmy Lake would be my first call.  Wasn't a good head coach, but was a great DC and recruiter

    This is insane:
Ohio State athletics reports 2024 operating expenses of $292.3 million and deficit of $37.7 million
There are no limits. I have no doubt that a billionaire will bail out Ohio State's Athletic Dept. This portends that an already unbalanced field is becoming more so.
When Iowa and Michigan State broke through in the 1980s, and Wisconsin broke through in the 1990s, there was reason for celebration and renewed interest in college football because it meant that it would no longer be the Big Two forever.
Most members of the Big Ten will never see a Big Ten Championship in football in the average fan's 80-year lifetime. So the rest of us cling to this:
  • "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

Or, perhaps in my lifetime, if it turns out to be longer than I expect
  • "Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth."
Under the new rules, the rest of us are f---ed.[/list]

TV rating numbers are UP!
They see no reason to change

https://twitter.com/bluebyninety/status/1883985439247511596

Let’s see….  Spent $20M on their roster.  So..they spent 1.42M per win.  And,  they got a home playoff game, and win, a Rose Bowl win, a Cotton Bowl win and a CFP win.  Plus, the got 4M to make the CFP, another 4M to make final eight, 6M to make final four, and 6M for Natty.  So, $20M!

Plus, they received 3M for expenses for EACH round- so another 12 M.  They don’t have to share that 12M like they do the 20M.  In addition to doing better than the teams that spent more- they beat 2/3 of them. ( Oregon and Texas.)

Along the way, they beat 5 top 5 teams ( never been done before) and 7 top ten teams.  The football program is definitely way in the green.  I would even say that it was a wise investment.

Now let’s look at Michigan.  They spent over 16M on their roster.  So, they spent 2M per win , and ended up without a single win that turned out to be significant.    And all they have to show for it is
https://twitter.com/RossDellenger/status/1884362194986377483?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1884362194986377483%7Ctwgr%5E0db3af29c24025acff439da0fffeeb04071aa99e%7Ctwcon%5Es1_c10&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.elevenwarriors.com%2Fforum%2Fohio-state-football%2F2025%2F01%2F153486%2Fmichigan-plans-to-delay-delay-delay

now I have seen estimates that UM has already spent $12-15M on legal fees trying to clean up this mess.  And climbing.

So you are definitely throwing rocks in a glass house.

The comparison I don’t see many making is that it’s similar to Major League Baseball. As. Cleveland Indians fan, I understand. Your team will not have the capability to spend like the big boys and the big boys and the league truly don’t give a damn because they like having more money to buy better teams. It takes a rare group that  overachieves for a much smaller dollar in order to have a special season and the system is set up to ensure it doesn’t last because it’s just farming the talent for the big boys in the future anyways. It ruins so much of the competitive spirit of a sport. I never thought it would reach the college game.
