2022 College Baseball Thread
« on: February 18, 2022, 12:36:57 PM »
2022 season starts today.

I have no idea how good Massey's preseason rankings are, but the Big Ten has made some gains over the past decade, that it would appear are erased if these are accurate.

If these ratings are somewhat close, and MSU can't get up to #8, might be time for a coaching change.

Also, Dave Winfield would be embarrassed.  Below are the Big Ten rankings with overall ranking in parenthesis.

  • Nebraska (42)
  • Michigan (62)
  • Indiana (69)
  • Iowa (70)
  • Maryland (84)
  • Ohio State (97)
  • Illinois (105)
  • Rutgers (126)
  • Northwestern (133)
  • Michigan State (143)
  • Penn State (154)
  • Purdue (156)
  • Minnesota (205)

I feel vindicated!    Nebraska has actually taken steps backwards joining the Big Ten in baseball as I thought they would.     The league will have moments, but it is simply not a P5 equivalent in baseball.  Nobody cares, the talent level is just not near par to the south/se etc.

That's too bad.  The Horns and Huskers had a bit of a mini-rivalry going in baseball and it was fun to watch.

Those preseason rankings are obsessed with the PAC.

Yup.  College baseball is way more important to me than college basketball is.

I managed to get out to the Disch for a few innings of yesterday's game, weather was nice, around 72 and mostly sunny.  The Rice Owls are not what they once were.

Every year, someone at the student newspaper writes that UW should have it, and every year, they are wrong.

I used to live in a town that was bonkers for it. I enjoy the sport in general, weirdly more than MLB.

I enjoy the college version of EVERY sport more than I enjoy the professional version.  Despite the fact that the level of talent and execution is better in the pros, I just don't feel the passion like I do for college sports.

Yup, we play a lot of SECSECSEC teams this year, should be fun.

I looked at our schedule and was disappointed that no Big Ten teams were scheduled

As noted in this thread, even B1G fans are surprised the sport of college baseball exists...

May as well schedule MAC teams. They are probably better.
