Even Purdue's worst aren't that bad.  You make it back for the first time since going back to the traditional colors and script Pitt, and that's what you come out in?

Also, my god, those are two very undeserving basketball teams.  Mississippi State has no talent, and Pitt might as well not have a coach
Pitt does have a fun point guard at least.

Lord I’m still mad UW couldn’t have won 1-2 more games and knocked one of them out.

Also, watching NIT basketball is a strange experience.

Also realized they stopped seeding the bottom half of the teams, and just pair up geographically.

I did not get to watch it. How come Wahl only played 17 minutes? Foul trouble (4)? Was he on the court at the end?

And to beat home that point, there’s this.

Pshhh, that’s not even Pitt’s ugliest NCAA tournament game of the past decade.

(That stat is also a bit narrow because the rebound thing. Like, since 2010, only 134 teams have won at all while getting out rebounded by 20)

My usual annual complaint about the NCAA tournament sites:
This year's eight first and second round sites are:
EST:

  • Albany, NY
  • Greensboro, NC
  • Orlando, FL
  • Columbus, OH
CST:
  • Birmingham, AL
  • Des Moines, IA
MST:
  • Denver, CO
PST:
  • Sacramento, CA
MSU didn't "get" it, Marquette got it.  MSU was just a beneficiary.  It's tough to work around that entirely.  You would have to flip MSU to a different region, and 2 of the other 3 regions have a different Big Ten team in the 7-10 game.  I guess you could flip MSU and Missouri

The Auburn one is a little bit of both.  Yes, they are in their home state.  But Alabama is there too, and I would bet even in a Houston-Auburn game, those Bama fans will not be rooting for an upset
This is a better way to look at it.  As an aside, the change to the pod system a few years ago was a HUMONGOUS improvement.  Here are the pods:
#1 seed pods:
  • Birmingham:  1 Bama, 8 UMD, 9 WVU, 16 TAMU-CC/SEMO
  • Birmingham:  1 Houston, 8 Iowa, 9 Auburn, 16 NKY
  • Columbus:  1 Purdue, 8Memphis, 9 FAU, 16 TxSo/FDU
  • Des Moines:  1 Kansas, 8 Arkansas, 9 IL, 16 Howard
#2 seed pods:
  • Sacramento:  2 UCLA, 7 Northwestern, 10 Boise, 15 UNC-Ash
  • Sacramento:  2 Zona, 7 Mizzou, 10 UtahSt, 15 Princeton
  • Des Moines:  2 Texas, 7 aTm (that sets up an interesting second-round game), 10 Penn State, 15 Colgate
  • Columbus:  2 Marquette, 7 Michigan State, 10 USC, 15 Vermont
#3 seed pods:
  • Denver:  3 Baylor, 6 Creighton, 11 NCST, 14 UCSB
  • Denver:  3 Gonzaga, 6 TCU, 11 ASU/Nevada, 14 Grand Canyon
  • Greensboro:  3 KSU, 6 Kentucky, 11 Providence, 14 MontSt
  • Greensboro:  3 Xavier, 6 ISU, 11 MissSt/Pitt, 14 KennesawSt
#4 seed pods:
  • Albany:  4 IU, 5 Miami,Fl, 12 Drake, 13 Kent
  • Albany:  4 UCONN, 5 StMary, 12 VCU, 13 Iona
  • Orlando:  4 UVA, 5 SDSU, 12 Charleston, 13 Furman
  • Orlando:  4 TN, 5 Dook, 12 Oral Roberts, 13 Louisiana

To be fair to the committee, there was a major abnormality this year.  There is an EXTREMELY unusual lack of East Coast teams among the top seeds.  Of the top four seeds only two are located in states along the eastern seaboard and both of those were #4's (UCONN and UVA).  Consequently, the Greensboro, Albany, and Orlando sites fell all the way to the #3 and #4 seed pods.  Usually Greensboro doesn't fall to a #4.

  • The four #1 seeds are in obvious locations and there were no conflicts as there would have been if, say, Texas was a #1 seed along with Bama and Houston.  Then it would have been trickier.
  • When they did the #2 seeds, Birmingham was already off the table.  UCLA and Zona getting Sacramento was obvious so that left Texas and Marquette.  Texas and Marquette would be better off in Birmingham and Des Moines but Birmingham was already off the table which sent Texas to Des Moines which took Des Moines off the table and Columbus isn't THAT far away and moving Marquette to Des Moines would require moving Texas to either Denver or Columbus so I understand the decision to keep both relatively close to home rather than one really close and one not very close.
  • When they did the #3 seeds, Birmingham, Columbus, and Sacramento were off the table.  That made Gonzaga to Denver obvious.  Then you are left with Baylor, KSU, and Xavier to go to Denver, Albany, Orlando, or Greensboro.  At that point, those decisions are fairly obvious.
  • When they did the #4 seeds there wasn't much to discuss because the only two sites left were Albany and Orlando.  So the four #4 seeds each got sent to the closer of those two.

Not sure if anyone has brought it up here, but my buddies and I have lamented the same.  I liked noticing which games were being played on the same courts.  Not sure why they went away from it
