Maurice Washington faces charges

Played the whole season, despite UNL knowing about the charge. This I do not like.

I don't think you can draw that inference.   Folks in California contacted UNL and requested to speak w MW in Aug, Sep.  MW attorney said he never disclosed details w UNL citing privilege.  Statements made by UNL suggest they were not informed of details at all until Feb 8th.    They knew CA wanted to speak w MW in Aug. About a matter.  What matter?  UNL says they weren't informed. 

Questions of course to be asked would include, did UNL then or ever speak w MW about this?  Did UNL make any effort to attempt to learn of details of what occurred in CA?   Assuming MW counsel and CA say nothing of details to school, what's their duty at that point?

Right.  An Indirect statement made by either investigator or by AG office saying Bruning said he represented Athletic Dept.  The document does not provide any detail as to who and how that information was gathered.  Of course this detail wasn't material to California's effort to file a charge , and a direct statement yesterday from Bruning saying he didn't say he represented the Athletic department .  School's statement says they were not aware of details of case until recently .

Sept. 13, 2018: Sexton texts Washington: "Please call ... I'd prefer to handle this between us but if I need to involve AD I will."
Sexton contacts the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Police Department seeking to confirm Washington's contact information. Police provide Washington's contact information to Sexton and Sexton's information to the athletic department. 
Later that day, Jamie Vaughn, the NU assistant athletic director of compliance, calls Sexton to say he had spoken to Husker football staff, who were concerned about Washington needing a lawyer. Vaughn says he would try to set up a time for Washington to meet with Sexton. 
Vaughn informs Bob Burton, deputy athletic director/chief of staff, and Athletic Director Bill Moos of the conversation with Sexton. 
The football staff introduces Washington to Jon Bruning, a former Nebraska attorney general, Husker booster and longtime friend to Matt Davison, the associate athletic director of football, and coach Scott Frost.
(At some point, Frost asks Bruning whether the football staff should be concerned about the investigation. Bruning does not reveal details of the nature of the inquiry but says it involved a text message when Washington was in California. Bruning tells Frost he doubted it would result in criminal charges.)

I'll be watching too.   But it appears the staff was told there would not be charges and there was no issue.   If true, I'm not sure what they would do differently.   

But you really have to question the judgement of a kid who texts a video to an ex showing her being sexually assaulted.   I guess I can't see being bitter enough about a break up to do that... maybe people get that way, but even if it is not criminal in all states (it is in California) it does show poor judgement and lack of decency.  


and for clarity, Washington did not film nor was involved in the assault.   Texting the assault back at the victim is the crime.

Yeah, I don't see how they should have been expected to handle it differently, but now there is no reason for him not to have been already kicked off the team.  Unless he just didn't do it, which seems unlikely, then what he did is enough that he should be gone, no matter where the legal process goes from here.

We all know people who have done dumb things after break ups..  He certainly wanted to hurt her emotionally, which I believe is one of the reasons the law is in place.   Not all states have these same laws... and they probably should.

The law has nothing to do with why I'd have already dismissed him.  A guy who would send a video of an assault to the victim is nobody I'd want anywhere near my team.
