And I agree Warren looked sharp and think he could be it moving forward. Had 2 TDs and no turnovers, still might want to alternate the others to avoid him getting killed

Michigan will be 6-6 this year with losses to OsU and Indiana.  Will Johnson taking most of the season off hasn’t helped and play calling may now be the bigger problem over the QB play. Personally, I hope there’s an overhaul in coaching staff in the offseason. So many are focused on paying the high level recruits. I don’t think that matters if you have poor coaching and in-game decision making.

Which NC teams in the past 30 years have fallen so far as Michigan?  I presume BYU did back in the day.

FSU did kind of claim an undefeated season last year, they now are 1-8, probably will end up 2-10.

FSU’s fall has probably been a little tough but you pose a great question. Michigan just simply lost almost everything that lead them to that success. Top 10 drafted qb, key starters at rb and WR. Most important guys on both the offensive and defensive line and the key play callers on both sides of the ball along with the head coach and key strength coach. The program was basically gutted and very few were left behind with experience outside of a couple players that are protecting their draft status over going all-in and this is one time I actually understand.

this has certainly not been a Nick Saban reload the next season type follow-up season. Closer to the opposite.

Limiting it to just the two major polls, because as you back you find like 5 teams claiming NCs, I found 4 cases where the defending champ lost 5 games.  That appears to be the most

  • 2020 LSU went 5-5 in the COVID year
  • 2011 Auburn went 8-5
  • 2008 LSU went 8-5
  • 1991 Georgia Tech went 8-5

A drop to 6-6 would be rather singular aside from the COVID year (*********).

Yeah, I'm not really sure what to do with that. They obviously have the worst winning percentage of the group, but they also only played SEC teams, no non conference

Thanks for adding this. Very interesting.  Feels similar to 2007-2008 LSU with a lot of important talent moving on, only a harder fall with coaching changes on top of it.

Well, NC teams usually don't have their coaches flee to the NFL to avoid NCAA investigations...

2008 LSU Football Schedule | FBSchedules.com

LSU had some close losses to good teams and then won the Peach Bowl.

Yeah the two LSU teams seem like the closest comparison.  Auburn was a one man team, and that man left, and I'm not sure Georgia Tech was all that good in 1990

wait people actually believe this dumb retarded line of bullshit?

Jeem didn’t flee shit. The guy has been openly flirting with NFL teams for the previous 3 off-seasons before finally pulling the trigger on an offer he liked.

NFL job >>>>>>>> college job. Period. End of discussion. End of story. Only a fool would turn down the NFL to coach college. Or only someone who knew their limitations and knew they were dog shit at coaching in the NFL. Jeem however was wildly successful in his previous NFL stint and is one of only a handful of guys ever in coaching history to be good at both levels.

Chargers gave Jeem a $16.5 million a year contract- which is significantly more than he was making at Michigan- and especially during that 2021 season when Michigan cut his contract in half- Chargers gave Jeem full control of football operations- Jeem handpicked the GM and has final say on roster moves- and oh yeah not to mention Chargers already had an elite young QB in place. There was no universe in existence where Jeem wasn’t taking that Chargers job if offered. Anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves.

Chargers are 5-3 and 2nd place in their division and on track to make the playoffs with the best defense in the entire NFL by every stat and advanced metric…but let me guess SigNz err DeRp dErP. Newsflash: Jesse Minter is just that good. Guy is the fucking truth and will be an NFL head coach within 3 years. Bookmark it.

Tech was pretty good that year, very good mobile QB, decent lines, they were a solid team, but obviously not a 1995 Nebraska, just good enough to win nearly every game, and then the citrus bowl against #19 Nebraska.  They kind of dodged a heavy weight.

According to Front Office Sports, the average pay of the twenty highest paid NFL head coaches is $8.98 million. And the average pay of the twenty highest paid NCAA football head coaches (again, according to Front Office Sports) is $8.99 million.
