Recruiting, Coaching, and Player Development
« on: September 20, 2021, 12:53:38 AM »
I am an alumnus of two D-1 FBS schools, as most of you know. FSU had been one of the elite helmet schools, as was Nebraska. Both have fallen into various states of disrepair. I created this chart using recruiting data from Yahoo's Rivals website. This chart seems to show FSU and Nebraska underperforming in player development, and Wisconsin and Iowa overperforming in player development.
I keep hoping in my lifetime FSU will play Iowa somewhere, sometime, but the only hope is in a bowl. Ain't happenin' this year, and probably not next year. FSU has been puzzling, but UCF has outstripped FSU in enrollment, and football, and soon will be a P5 program. I recall how downward trends in Iowa football starting in 1961 became, for 19-years, irreversible.

Good chart, I think folks did know this without the data somehow.  Wisconsin is my ultimate example of PD.  Georgia is the reverse.

Almost hard to believe Wisconsin stays as low as they do in recruiting.  Their linemen have been great for ages, you'd think they were pulling in several blue-chippers per cycle there.

One of my solutions to the past 4-5 years of poor FSU offensive line play is for FSU to review the O-Line recruits list for each O-Lineman Wisconsin expresses an interest in recruiting, and contact everyone of them.

I think they coach them up at Wisky.

My point is Iowa should be the worst of these teams in 2021; FSU should be the best, based upon recruiting.
I don't think this is the case in 2021. In fact, there is now an argument that the recruiting standings are opposite of the actual results, for these teams.

You should repost this on the B1G board, it's fascinating.

I would like to get folks directed to this board, too. Maybe a post like this will be posted later on the Big Ten Board. If I said, "Go Hawks, Bearcats, and Dawgs!" I think we would have a conflict of interest, that could extend into the playoffs. Getting my hopes up, anyway. I have more confidence in the Bearcats and Dawgs.

Yeah, it would be great to get more action here, but mainly as you know it's on the B1G site.

The correlation between "stars" and wins is usually a good one, and the exceptions like Wisky and Iowa are fascinating.
